Listening Leadership Camp

“Tomorrow’s leaders in grades 6-12 and college and university mentors, discover your skills in listening through adventures in biology, archaeology, music, art, language, and culture. Please join Margaret Bruchez, Ph.D. anthropologist and archaeologist, Joel Gordon, Boston professional recording engineer, and Stacy Erickson, Santa Fe artist and help explore the extraordinary sounds of prairie grassland residents, past and present.”

2012 Youth Listening Leadership Camps Checklist

Each session Arrival Tuesday 3-5:00pm; Pick up Friday afternoon 3-5:00pm

- Participants will be camping.
- Boys and girls will be in separate areas beside the main headquarter area.
- Students will be chaperoned at all times.
- Indoor bathrooms with solar showers are available.
- Parents can call 505-425-1819 if they would like to contact their child at any time. If we are in the field, we will check messages 3 times a day and will return calls as soon as possible.
  - WHAT TO BRING:
    - Something to share around the campfire (poem, story, experience, favorite sound)
    - Sleeping bag/ mat and pillow
    - Water bottle (reusable)
    - Sunscreen
    - Head lamp or flash light with fresh batteries
    - Insect repellent
    - Bandana
    - Hiking shoes (tennis shoes or boots): no flip flops for hiking
    - Sandals or flip flops for relaxation
    - Appropriate clothing that is loose fitting and comfortable (PE clothes) light weight shorts, t-shirts, sweat shirt or light-weight jacket; rain jacket, depending upon weather; extra socks; long pants for hiking.
    - A hat to keep the sun off your face.
- WHAT NOT TO BRING:
  - All Electronic devices because they obstruct listening, get lost or damaged
  - Cell phones (no coverage)
  - Chip bags, sugary snacks, sodas (we will provide PLENTY of nutritious food)
- WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW:
  - Please confirm your attendance by placing your $25 deposit by June 15. We will fill positions in the order received.
